GP Learning Disability Register

The Learning Disability Register is for babies, children, young people and adults who have a learning disability and are registered at their local GP practice.

The register lets the health staff at the (Doctor) GP practice know that a person has a learning disability and that the person may need reasonable adjustments. If your child has a learning disability, it’s important they get the right help and support.

GP Carers Register

Caring for a child or young person can take a physical and mental toll on a parent or carer. Did you know GP surgeries have a carers register much like a learning disabilities register?

To register as a carer with a GP in Suffolk, you can fill out a form provided by the surgery and give it to the receptionist. Depending on the GP surgery, their may be alternative ways to register as a carer.

Although every GP surgery is different, being registered as a carer can mean that you:

  • Asked about your physical and mental health
  • More flexibility when arranging medical appointments
  • Notified of any support services that may be helpful

GPs can also provide support to carers, including:

  • Free annual health checks
  • Flu vaccinations
  • Repeat prescriptions
  • Access to carer assessments and benefits checks
  • Involvement in care planning
